93.3 The Bone in Dallas now has Atlanta-based “The Regular Guys” simulcast morning show
DALLAS 93.3 The Bone -- now officially known as "93.3 FM Quality Rock" -- began airing a non-local simulcast on Monday April 27 (duh, today) featuring "The Regular Guys," the morning crew from Atlanta rock station WNNX, a sibling station in the Cumulus family.
The old 93.3 Web site automatically switches over to a new URL, fm933qualityrock.com. "Quality rock" appears to be the Dave Matthews Band (who knew?), whose photo is featured on the site, along with a slogan on top that says "NEW WEBSITE COMING SOON, CHECK BACK".
If you click on the live-stream, it says "NOW PLAYING: FM 93.3 - The Dave Matthews Station". But what's airing is guys blah-blah-blah-ing about watching 30 Rock on Tivo, snakes in Florida, and random references to "our new Dallas listeners", punctuated by local-news reports recited too quickly to comprehend what they're saying. Ads include TV station channel 33, Subway, and Hotels.com.
"Regular Guys" Larry Wachs and Eric Von Haessler have been in and out of Atlanta radio since the '90s; they've been described as offering a "mix of politics, social commentary, and humor", and as being popular with men 18 to 54. The current crew also includes "Southside Steve Rickman" and Tim Andrews.
Philpot points out that "DFW music-radio audiences haven't gone for many morning shows that don't actually originate in DFW", and then ruminates on what it all means to have an adult album alternative (AAA) format that includes Red Hot Chili Peppers, Counting Crows, Beck, Gomez, 311, and Barenaked Ladies, including a quote from operations manager Jeff Catlin.
The weird thing is hearing the station IDs keep saying "quality rock" but in a really crappy and tinny manner.

What Happened? I tuned to 93.3 over the weekend...didn't know what the heck I was listening to. Why do they change a good thing? Don't fix it if it ain't broke. After 92.5 changed, I started listening to the Bone. Now I'll need to search for another "Quality" Classic Rock station.

This is a good thing. Can you say format change? They're now a AAA format. Dallas radio just got good again.

Another reason I went to Sirius/XM some time ago. At least there I can listen to a mix of different genres and Stern. Commerical radio lost its testicals years ago, especially in the market.

rata, I agree. A whole station dedicated to Dave Matthews this past weekend? Halfway through a washed-up rerun of "Satellite," I had already moved on. Looks like 92.5 is going to get some great new listeners.

Bring back the ZONE! -Sheesh, how boring. Way to be local, Radio! Way to shortchange DFW, Cumulus by not wanting to pay for a decent homegrown morning show. And people wonder why it's a 2nd tiered mass medium. Personality is what grows an audience. And a local personality can create local sales opps, contribute to the community, generate excitement, etc. Bah, I am old radio coot anyway, what do I know? Get off my lawn!

I listened for about 30 minutes this morning. In that span I heard the "Regular Guys" imply that Obama should be waterboarded, blacks are inferior to whites, uneducated children should not be allowed to go to school with eductaed children?, and a bit about breasts on 6th grade girls.
Nice going. You won't be in Dallas for long (unless you're willing to work for free that is).

I actually love the new format. I especially think the morning guys are great. Thanks for admitting that Global Warming is a bunch of crap! Finally some form of media that is not afraid of kissing up to the rest of the bunch.
