Stage set (at Angelika Dallas) for 8th annual 24-Hour Video Race
24-Hour Video Race
- Fri
- May
- 22nd
- 11PM
- Angelika Film Center & Cafe
- 5321 East Mockingbird Lane, Dallas
- $5 - $50
- Age limit: All ages
Got 24 hours (from midnight, May 22 - midnight, May 23) and an interest in milking each of them for all they're worth?
Wanna be a director? (Or a star, or a gaffer? How 'bout a key grip? Wouldn't that be cool?)
Then you might want to consider putting together (or becoming part of) a team to compete in the 8th annual 24-Hour Video Race, sponsored by the Video Association of Dallas.
Beginning at 11:59 on Friday, May 22 and ending 24 hours later, entrants will race to complete the writing, shooting, editing and scoring of an original film to the best of their creative (and functional) ability, turning over their finished work to event organizers at the end of the allotted sidereal day.
Finalist entries will be screened for the public (and the judges) on Wednesday, June 3 at the Angelika Film Center in Dallas; winning films (in each of the categories listed below) will later air on Channel 13 - KERA, on the Frame of Mind program - and then again as part of the 22nd annual VideoFest in November.
Teams compete in five categories:
Pixelvision (students K-12)
Futurevision (current college/university students and recent graduates)
Auteur (professional or amateur teams of 1 or 2 members)
Guerilla (professional or amateur teams of 3 to 5 members)
Hollywood (professional or amateur teams of 6 or more members)
There is an entry fee involved (which varies depending on category). For more information, or to register for the fun, go here.
Somnambulists need not apply (unless you only play one on TV).

Important question: Are screenings of all entries on May 26-28 open to the public? $5 admission? Or is it only the finalists on June 3?

Doyle - it's my understanding that they are, indeed, open to public - and the cost of admission is $5 per session.

There are two sessions per day during the judging phase: 5 p.m. - 7:30, and 7:30 - 10 p.m.

Or you can wait and see the finalists on June 3. (Or both!)
