Oak Lawn church to host music festival on May 3
On May 3 at 3 p.m., a music festival will be held at the corner of Oak Lawn and Cedar Springs Road in uptown Dallas.
A 135-year-old Church, Oak Lawn United Methodist, is hosting the great grandson of its Founder, Marcus Hiram Cullum, to perform a special festival with exemplary musical friends. Jim Cullum leads the Jim Cullum Jazz Band which has performed regularly for forty years at the Landing Jazz Club on the Riverwalk in San Antonio. He currently has a radio show on KNTU 88.1 each Saturday.
One special friend is Brian Holland, three-time World Old-Time Piano Playing Champion. For years he toured the US from coast to coast with Jeff Barnhart performing sparkling duets. He is now the owner of both Holland Rhythm Company and B-Square Entertainment. Another friend is Ed Bernet, originally of the Levee Banjo Band, which morphed into the Levee Singers, a most-in-demand group of the 1960’s. The Levee Singers performed on top network TV shows, Danny Kaye, Joey Bishop, Hollywood Palace, and Jimmy Dean among them. However, they decided they loved The Levee in Dallas, and their Texas fans more than bigger fame and came back to their roots.
All are invited to the festival -- I am sure we will run out of seats, so you might come a little early.
