Casa Mañana announces nominees for Betty Lynn Buckley Awards
Named in honor of Fort Worth’s own Tony award-winning actress, the Betty Lynn Buckley Awards celebrate excellence in high school musical theatre across Tarrant County. The awards ceremony is scheduled for May 21, 2009.
All Tarrant County High Schools that produce a musical are eligible to participate in the program. A panel of distinguished judges–comprised of local theatre professionals, critics and educators–votes for a winner in each of 16 award categories. Select award categories are divided based upon the budget size of the school's production. The Fort Worth-based accounting firm of Weaver and Tidwell, L.L.P. tabulates the votes, which are kept secret until the Awards Ceremony in May.
Winners in select categories are rewarded with a $500 college scholarship, which are provided by generous donors who recognize the benefits of this program and the impact musical theatre has on the lives of students.
