Eating and drinking events in Dallas-Fort Worth April 30-May 6

Cinco de Mayo is the culinary highlight of the week, with plenty of opportunities to feast, whether at a restaurant, or in a how-to cooking class:

Global Grounds International Coffee Hour Thursday 4 p.m.

UTA hosts a coffee hour with the opportunity to get to know the international community at the university, with free coffee, masala chai, and snacks.

Farmers Market Friday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Who isn't having a farmers market these days? Here's one place that is: Watters Creek, up in Allen.

2009 Texas Exes Crawfish Boil All-You-Can-Eat Saturday 2 p.m.

More than 500 pounds of crawfish, straight outa Louisiana, with sausage, potatoes, corn, and beer. And it's for charity: Proceeds benefit the Texas Exes Scholarship Fund.

Dinner and Beer Tasting Sunday 6 p.m.

Can you say "SPATEN"? Featured beers are SPATEN Lager and SPATEN Oktoberfest, plus a four-course menu with dishes inspired by SPATEN Premium Bock and Optimator. It's another charity event, this time benefiting Dress for Success Dallas.

Cinco de Mayo Party at Maximo Tuesday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Mariachi music, Flamenco dance performances, $5 drink specials, and specials such as Fajitas for Two, Braised Chicken Mole, Mole Burger, and roasted corn on the cob.

Cinco de Mayo Cooking Class Tuesday 6 to 9 p.m.

Create a celebratory Mexican feast. Work with traditional Mexican ingredients, make a traditional Mexican soup, work with avocados, marinate jicama, segment citrus, candy peanuts, make mole, cook with tomatillos, and toast pumpkin seeds.

But will they have tacos that aren't overpriced? THAT is the question.

Yes - SPATEN!

Mole translates to 'sauce' or also can mean a sauce-concoction (as in guacamole). I wonder which mole Maximo is serving? There are at least 7 differnt kinds of those sauces, with mole poblano being the one w/ chocolate that gets bastardized as 'mole' in the U.S.

Also, will it be served with chicken that doesn't taste like pulled pork?
