Fort Worth ISD closes due to swine flu cases
More disease news
FORT WORTH The Fort Worth Independent School District will temporarily close all of its schools until further notice, effective Thursday, April 30, 2009. Schools will likely not reopen any sooner than Monday, May 11.
This follows the official confirmation of one case of swine flu at one campus (previously a probable case) and the announcement that there are three other probable cases at three other schools.
Superintendent Melody Johnson, Mrs. Lou Brewer, director of the Tarrant County Public Health Department, and Dr. Sandra Parker, medical director of the Tarrant County Public Health Department, jointly made the announcement at a news conference Wednesday evening.
“We have been diligently following the recommendations of our local public health authorities since this crisis first began,” said Dr. Johnson. “We will continue to work with the senior-most staff of the local health department.”
Additional details will be added to the District Web site as they become available.
Other area schools have closed, but this is the first major district.Source: Fort Worth ISD

So is this a way of saying that we KNOW there are so many Mexican <strike>Citizens' </strike>travelers' children enrolled in Ft. Worth ISD that <strike>national sovereignty</strike> health security has already failed? Moreover, we had to make it through the TAKS test so that state money for those Mexican <strike>Citizens'</strike> travelers' children is allocated.
Interesting priorities.

Closing schools without closing the borders is just stupid. And does anyone really think all these kids out of school are going to be kept away from other people? I'm SURE all their parents will be able to stay home from work with them, especially the teenagers. I'm thinking they should close the malls instead of the schools.

..and this is why some of you folks arent president of these united states ;)
When something of this nature occures, EVERYTHING has to be weighed, not just public health. If we "closed" the borders as some of you suggest, it would only exasterbate the problem and set into motion potential socioeconomic upheavel similar to what has been seen in mexico. The last time I checked, the economy has been struggling to recover. Performing a "isolationist" move would only cause problems not just here, but worldwide

'Bout dam time!!
And chris, we're not the president because our net worth is under 8 figures, not because we disagree with you.
A Swiss cheese border is no border at all and the last time I looked the Mexican economy was a shambles day in and day out. And weighing "EVERYTHING" ought to occasionally include the safety of your citizenry. As the border moves north, so does the border corruption, the border violence and the border squalor.
btw, my lawn guy's native tongue is English, as was the last guy that did my roof. Lowest bids, too.
"Economy" -- gimme another myth to giggle at.

Jason, I thought you net worth was only 8 bucks. That fact and the receeding hairline wont get you elected right there as Americans want a man/woman w/ a full head of hair and at least 10 bucks in their wallet ;)
I agree, the border is a HUGE issue. But, shutting it off like the Neocons and John Birchers want isnt the way to fix the problem, it only causes more people to be forced on the dole. I say tighten up on the regs and let these people become citizens after going through all the hoops, make them pay into the system like everyone else or even more since they came illegally to offset their costs (documents, IDs, citizenship, ect..)Id rather see productive people than just wasting tax money on building a wall that can be scaled w/ a ladder or spending it on throwing them out and having them coming back in.

I'm pretty sure the schools are closed down because children are filthy little animals, wiping snot on each other and coughing in each others' ears. I don't remember the last time I saw a kid wash his hands.

Also, I'll have you know that the reason I'm not president is that I'm foreign born, too young, and brutally incompetent, thank you very much!

But Arnold's people are working on it.
And Chris, he's got your hair and $10 covered, so all we need is 3Bil ad budget and we're in.
The baldness is someone else's issue. My hair isn't receding. It hasn't moved in ten years.
