Jim Wright scholarship available to Tarrant County College students
Former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Jim Wright and the Mid-Cities Democrats are pleased to invite students planning to attend or already attending Tarrant County College, northeast campus, to apply for the Jim Wright Scholarship.
This is the second year a scholarship in Speaker Wright's name has been awarded to a student attending the school, chosen with Speaker Wright's guidance. This year, at least one deserving student will be awarded $750 to cover tuition costs for the fall 2009 semester.
Speaker Wright served Tarrant County for 34 years. This scholarship is meant to inspire students to improve their communities, just as Speaker Wright did.
Dozens of area high schools have the scholarship application. Students should contact their guidance counselors or may download the application from the Mid-Cities Democrats Club Web site, http://www.midcitiesdemocrats.com
The application deadline is June 1 and the decision date is July 13.
Though the scholarship is offered by a partisan organization, the only political task required of applicants is that they be registered to vote, if eligible.
The recipient(s) of the Wright Scholarship will be invited to attend the biennial Jim Wright dinner, sponsored by the Mid-Cities Democrats, this fall.
