John Paul II High School golfer wins state championship
On April 20-21, the John Paul II High School golf team competed in the TAPPS (Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools) 5A State Golf Championships and came home with a big win for the Plano Catholic high school. This year’s competition took place at the Atascocita Country Club in Humble, Texas, where several schools from across the state met to compete both individually and as teams.
The JPIIHS boys golf team’s own sophomore, Michael Culin, became the first state golf champion for John Paul II High School. As a team, the JPIIHS golf team tied last year’s performance at state with a 6th place finish. The team consisted of, freshman Dan Wagner, Michael Culin; junior Taylor Clymer; junior Jake Wagner; and senior Zach Rigby. Individually, Culin shot an even par 142 with scores of 68 and 74 en route to a 2 shot victory over several nationally ranked junior golfers from TCA and Prestonwood Christian Academy whose teams finished first and second respectively.
JPIIHS junior Avery Kyle, the girls team’s only qualifier repeated her top-ten performances from last year and has earned her second straight all state honors.
