Kids and family events in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, April 29 - May 5
As April morphs into May, you and your family will be able to enjoy "live TV" in Flower Mound, a musical in Fort Worth starring two amphibians, fishing in Flower Mound, a festival at White Rock Lake in Dallas, and a Cinco de Mayo celebration in Irving.
On Thursday, April 30, the Flower Mound Performing Arts Theatre will present the first performance of Channel Surfin’: A Night of Live TV. 'Cause, you know, nothing beats a night away from the TV ... to watch a group of young actors poking fun at TV. The show will continue through the weekend and next Wednesday-Friday.
A Year with Frog & Toad starts on Friday, May 1 at the Casa Mañana Theatre in Fort Worth. The Tony Award-winning musical extols the virtues of having a good friend to share life's activities with. Such as, you know, seeing good theater. Frog & Toad continues through May 17.
Looking to do something outdoors? Head out to Rheudasil Park in Flower Mound for KidFish on Saturday, May 2. Rheudasil Pond will be stocked with more than 1,000 catfish for this free event for youth ages 16 and younger.
Also on Saturday is the first day of the White Rock Lake Festival at - duh - White Rock Lake in Dallas. The fundraiser for the White Rock Lake Foundation will feature boat rides, a children’s area with bounces houses, pony rides and a petting zoo, food from area restaurants, a classic car show, rock climbing wall, pet adoptions, exhibitors and live music. The festival will continue on Sunday.
Finally, since Tuesday is Cinco de Mayo, Irving is holding the Cinco de Mayo Multicultural Festival at Senter Park. The celebration will include music, food, art and crafts, folklorico dancing by FAMA, a health and educational fair, games for children, and Mexican and (oddly) Asian food. Conveniently enough, if you can't make it out on the actual day, they'll also be holding the festival the previous Saturday, May 2.
