Live music events in Dallas-Fort Worth April 30 - May 3

1

Start the weekend with the unexpected and end it with purpose.

Thursday

There's quite a bit of good music on Thursday night, so you can't really go wrong, but the most interesting in the bunch is Ximena Sariñana at the House of Blues. Imagine soulful nu-jazz with some folky flair here and there, pero está en español. Not to mention that she's super cute.

Friday

Ximena Sariñana - "Mediocre"

Moving on to Friday there's the first night featuring music at Mayfest 2009 on Fort Worth's Trinity River. Leading Friday's main stage are Micky and the Motorcars and Reckless Kelly. Throughout the week you can catch local bands like the J. Walkers, Brave Combo, Maren Morris, Poo Live Crew, 3 Fools on 3 Stools, and April Geesbreght. Wait, no, it's canceled

There are also a number of Purple Parties happening this weekend, the opening party on Friday at Lizard Lounge. Featuring DJ Alyson Calagna, proceeds from the events benefit AIDS services of Dallas.

Saturday

Ghoultown is having their 10-year anniversary show at the Double Wide on Saturday night. The event is free, so make sure to get there early or on time. It could fill up depending on how many Ghoultown fanatics have the night open.

There's more great local fare over in Denton at Hailey's. RTB2 headline a set that includes Brass Bed and Bridges and Blinking Lights. RTB2 will release an album this summer and were just today announced as a nominee in Quick's Big Thing awards in the "Big Group" category.

Sunday

On Sunday, perhaps you can slow it down with a purpose at the Meyerson. The Turtle Creek Chorale presents The Healing Project, "a musical exploration of personal and communal courage during challenging times using poetry drawn from personal accounts and powerful, evocative music." The goal is to promote understanding of the similarities between various distinct communities in North Texas.
