Several North Texas schools closed due to swine flu scare
Nothing like a good pandemic scare to get schools to shut down: Cleburne High School and the Golden Rule Charter School in Oak Cliff are the latest schools to cancel classes due to concern over a possible swine flu outbreak. They join Canyon Creek Elementary in Richardson, which suspended school earlier this week.
I don't know about anyone else, but I have yet to hear why exactly swine flu is any different/dangerous than the regular flu. Could it just be we like to scare people?

Call them and remind them that in Europe it's being called "Mexican Flu" --- that's gotta get 'em riled, right? Tell them it's both deadly AND illegal.

TAKS tests = money.
Not gonna scare any state money away until Friday afternoon.
Should we start a pool for what time the announcement comes out tomorrow? $5 a square (30 minutes each) starting at 8:00 a.m. (after the final tests have started) -- Politically incorrect generalization here

Im all for getting rid of the TAKS, get the kids back to learning the 3 Rs, The Classics, Arts and Music. Quit teaching kids a dang test that wont benefit them as productive members of society.
On the flu: If there are sick kids/teachers, close the school down and clean house. The TEA has already said they're giving carte blance to districts who close. The kids/teachers/staff wont have to make up those days, which is a good thing. Id rather get this done and taken care of than risk anyones health.
