The 500, Inc. is pleased to announce Artfest 2009 Featured Artist, Rebecca Guy, an Allen resident who has captured the magic of Dallas, Fair Park and The 500, Inc. in her work Art in the Park. As the featured artist, her piece will be highlighted on Artfest 2009 t-shirts and promotional materials.
"We are thrilled with the work represented by Rebecca Guy," says April Davis, President of The 500, Inc. "It captures the energy and essence of downtown Dallas with such landmarks as the Old Red Courthouse, iconic
Pegasus and ferris wheel at Fair Park. It also includes minute detailing of the 2008/2009 beneficiaries of The 500, Inc."
Art in the Park is part of Guy's Dark City series, a collage of bold colors, digital photos, found imagery, and acrylic, that has taken several years to develop. Guy believes dreams are full of symbolic imagery where pictures float through minds forming and dissolving like an internal kaleidoscope. Her mixed media series is created in an attempt to make these concepts tangible.
Guy considers herself an artist of the modern era, focusing her style primarily on mixed-media and collage. Intrigued by the imagery of her surroundings, Guy incorporates materials from her environment with traditional acrylic paint to create beautiful dreamscape collages. She has received several awards for inventive style including the honor of being published in the Kennedy Group's national collection of mixed media artists. Guy currently resides in Allen, Texas, with her husband, Charlie. They are involved in opening a new arts center in Richardson called Elite Multi Arts Center (EMAC) that will feature theatre, art, music, poetry and dance in a quality, professional setting.
Artfest 2009 will be held at Fair Park (3809 Grand Avenue) over Memorial Weekend, May 22 - 24 and will showcase over 200 juried artists displaying, demonstrating and selling their one-of-a-kind creations to close to 20,000 guests.
