State Highway 161 between 183 in Irving and I-30 in Grand Prairie now open

6

The Texas 161 toll road between 183 in Irving and Interstate 30 in Grand Prairie is open.

The road is an all-electronic toll road and an extension of the President George Bush Turnpike. If you take it from Arlington all the way to Garland where it currently ends, it's about 40 miles and costs either $4.28 for those with TollTags or $6.13 for those without. Construction continues with an extension from I-30 to I-20.

Seems they didn't appropriately calculate the traffic impact on the 183-161 ramp. They took a lane away for this opening and now traffic backs up onto 183. Genius. They ruined what used to be a half way decent drive into Irving. Couldn't they do something different to keep the traffic flowing?

To cmaspe99: Best way to get people to take the toll is mess up traffic at 183 entrance. I agree though, they've now increased the risk on 183 and drivetime on the 183-161 northbound ramp. Atleast those 4 cars per minute on northbound 161 get through just fine.

TG, is that $4.28 pre or post rate hike?

And I'd liek to personally thant NTTA for using a 60% disfuncutional sign UNDER a bypass JUST before the new reduced lanes to EXIT 161 onto 183 this morning.

I was thus subjected to a lovely tour of the freshly minted $5 chunk of taxpayer subsidized profit. --- And with NO exits all the way to I-30, my commute was lengthened accordingly.

In every way, NTTA defined my day today.

Oh, and cmaspe99,

Thank you for the warning - that will be my home trek and I'm sure THIS is all the warning I'll get.

When I finally snap, it will be at an NTTA site.
