Salary negotiations hinder Lancaster ISD board, lone finalist
The agenda for the Lancaster ISD board meeting indicated that a new superintendent would be named. However, after long discussions in closed executive session, the board passed over the items without action.
Discussions with trustees after the meeting disclosed that the salary schedule offered by the financially restricted district could not meet expectations of Pamela Morris, the candidate being considered. Morris, currently superintendent of Sealy ISD, anticipated a pay rate comparable to that paid LISD's previous superintendent, Larry Lewis. His last year in position, Dr. Lewis drew over $200,000, plus various benefits. The district this year was offering considerably less. Negotiation continued through the long meeting but by the nearly-midnight close, both sides could agree on nothing more than the end of the deal. Arrow Educational Services will once again conduct the search for a new round of applicants.
