The Dallas Center for Architecture's film series will diverge from its recent focus on documentary features this coming Wednesday (Aug. 12) with a screening of The Fountainhead, Ayn Rand's classic story of an iconoclastic architect's struggle between his own values and artistic goals and those of society.
Starring Gary Cooper as Howard Roark and Patricia Neal as Dominique Francon, this 1949 cinema classic was directed by King Vidor from a script hammered out by Rand herself.
There will be an after-film discussion led by Dr. David Whillock, dean of Texas Christian University's College of Communications. He'll probably asking the audience how many architects share Roark's view that he doesn't build in order to have clients; rather, he has clients in order to build. (I mean, I'd ask that if I were him.)
The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Dallas Center for Architecture at 1909 Woodall Rodgers, Ste. 100. Admission is a $10 donation to the DCFA, and popcorn and cold drinks will be provided at no additional charge.
You may RSVP for this event by emailing info@dallascfa.com.
