Frisco gives the go-ahead for a Wal-Mart special use permit
The normal Wal-Mart-coming-into-our-town concerns were in place as the Frisco City Council decided whether or not to allow a 24-hour Wal-Mart Supercenter to be built.
Despite concerns, Frisco OK'd creating a special-use permit for the 184,985-square-foot store that will be built on 22.5 acres of a 36-acre site at Preston Road at Hickory Street. The council members voted 5-0 in favor, while member Jeff Cheney had to sit out because of a conflict of interest. He was apparently still elated over a recent 3-for-$5 boxer purchase and couldn't be trusted to vote objectively.

John McClelland says:
I have truly never understood the need for so many WalMarts packed into such a small area. There's like 20 of them from North Dallas to Little Elm.

Peter Stawicki says:
Agreed AnnMarie - From Super Centers to neighborhood markets there are multiples to meet the needs of every city. Its like Starbucks had been doing. At least the economy pruned those back.

DC says:
Isn't Walmart basically THE culture of Frisco, anyway? Maybe they should have applied for a museum permit or something.

Im tired of hearing the protests from the residents, EVERYTIME there is a Walmart opening. They complain about the traffic, etc, however the LOCAL City council ALWAYS votes for it, because Walmart will give extra money for roads, landscape, etc. Its not a frisco thing... There's one here in West Plano, off the tollway, next to very affluent neighborhood and Costco. Doesn't seem to hurt Costco, though!!!

Are there even any mom-and-pop stores in Frisco to eliminate?

AnnMarie Wilson says:
I doubt it Pavel, they've already been eliminated.
Can't help but wonder if - at this rate, they'll be any mom-and-pops left anywhere? Any nice family run businesses; you remember, where they actually know you and care.
Oh you can get 'personal' treatment at high-end $$$ places because it's their job, not because they give a d@mn.
Talk about 'feeling like a number'.
