Dallas arsonist caught in the act
On July 31, August 3, and August 4, 2009, the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department responded to a rash of fires at the Asante Apartments, located at 202 S. Jim Miller Rd. On Wednesday, August 5, arson investigators staked out the location and through surveillance found that James Earl Castle, dob. 1-26-79, was observed at approximately 3:10 a.m., attempting to set a fourth fire. At this time, Castle had a lighter and a sock soaked in lighter fluid in his possession.
Arson Investigators Captain Sam Stephenson and Lieutenant Derrick Cherry detained Castle at the scene. The suspect was taken in for questioning where he gave a full confession for all four fires set. He is being charged with two counts of 2nd degree felony arson and one charge of attempted arson.
The 30-year-old male was a disgruntled resident at the Asante Apartments.
