North Texas school systems prepare for start of classes with swine flu front of mind
Swine flu hasn't been much in the news lately (*SIGH!*), due in part to the fact that events in the State of South Carolina continue to command the nation's attention. (No, REALLY.)
But with schools across North Texas set to open later this month, the specter of hordes of snot-nosed kids (no offense intended) in close proximity to each other (and their teachers) is leading some to consider the possibility that renewed outbreaks might be set to occur.
The U.S. Departments of Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, and Education -- along with the Centers for Disease Control -- have gotten together on a new set of guidelines for dealing with outbreaks, which relies less on closing down school systems at the first sign of the virus and more on the sorts of common sense measures typically taken in response to "regular," seasonal flu occurrences.
Sounds like a plan.
