Ringling Bros. to parade elephants down Fort Worth’s Main Street Tuesday evening

27

The circus is in town. Downtown, in the streets, that is. Ringling Bros. will be parading elephants and clowns down Fort Worth's Main Street on Tuesday, August 11, from the Convention Center to Sundance Square. The parading should begin around 7:20 p.m.

On other news, the city of Dallas has informed the homeless population that free food and clothing will be available in Fort Worth. To qualify, please lay face down on Main Street at 7pm, close your eyes, and ignore all sounds around you.

Poor elephants,...oh well that is the card they have been dealt this time. I just love the circus but also hate the animals are caged and have to entertain us, the simple minded beings. A few years back, I saw a killer-whale being plucked from the sea, to be held as an attraction at some zoo park,...the poor creature was screaming, in a sad voice, almost begging, saying "please no,..please no!",.. is what it almost sounded like, it was sad and something I will never forget. It's family and friends, other killer-whales watched from the sea,...in muted protest. Splashing waves as if to say goodbye or stop it.

Peter Stawicki says:

Russ you would rather they left him/her/it out there for the Japanese or the Aleutians to hunt, kill, and eat?? Despite what PETA will tell you these animals are generally treated well and get fed far better than they would in the wild.

I for one hasve great memories of the elephants at the circus and at this point in my life still try to make it out for the elephant walks from the trains to the big tops.

DC says:

What kind of dumb logic is that? Better parade these animals around main street America so slack jawed locals can point and wipe the spit from the chins of their chromosomally challenged progeny instead of leaving these creatures living in the wild where slanty-eyed humanoids may pose a threat to themselves?

Please, proposed cure worse than your imaginary disease.

DC - if you feel so positive about us slack jawed yokels, feel free to go live out in the woods among the animals. I'm sure you will be more happy there.

Your video is standard Peta crap. There are idiots in every group and you have some great shots of two of them. Im happy to have both of them trampled to death by an elephant and I wouldnt shed a tear.

Pedal your bleeding heart liberal crap some place else. I love animals just like anyone else - right on my plate next to the rice!

(BTW I love the shot of the elephant doing a trick and how demeaning that is, however you see a human doing idiotic things in the same shot. Funny!)

Russ Vandeveerdonk says:

Peter Stawicki---the killer whale scenario is still sad, as for the Japanese or Aeleutians who would kill them anyway, that is a simple-minded thought. The ocean is huge, chances of them getting killed by others is remote given the size and scope of the entire free ocean. What right do we have to take these creatures out of thier homes and confine them for our own silly entertainment. Have we humans not done enough damage to this planet and it's current inhabitants already? I just have a big heart and do not like to see suffering of any kind to anyone or any creature, period. Elephants or killer whales. Now,............

I'm soooo sorry. I see the error of my ways. I'm shedding tears for all our furry friends. Forgive me my evil not politically correct thoughts.

(When I'm feeling better I think I might go have a nice a big bowl of Norweign Whale Stew with a side of Elephant Jerky while I'm watching some boob tube this evening.)

How dare we leave animals out in the wilderness where they can be killed by other animals.

Tigers should just starve to death, too.

James Scott says:

Typical ignorant and immature response, Peter. Bravo. Just because you don't give an s* about animals (which is completely fine) doesn't make everyone else a "bleeding heart".

That video is only one of many undercover investigations, so your "two of them" out of the group isn't exactly fair. Plus, the simple fact that they are able to get as much footage as they do with the lock-down Ringling Bros has on their "training" leads one to believe there's probably much worse that goes on we never see.

It's fine if you want to live in a world with blinders, just don't get your panties in a wad when other people are sharing their opinions.

Geez, PS if you're so worked up about living in the city with all of us liberals and elitists, you could go live in the hills and wear a barrel while stabbing your own dinner.

Animals in circus = dumb

Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey dates back the the 1870's...while the Big top came down in 1957 after a great fire so events are held in doors now, for this group..and they have been and are still using the trains to get their Greatest Show on Earth... around, while they vacation in the Palm Beach area.....the event is for adults and kids.... talent that you and I could not do ...the greatest event still...A/T, See you there...

Peter Stawicki says:

I've decided against the stew but the steak sounds great. Anyone free for dinner?

Whale Steak

4 portions

4 slices of whalemeat @ 150 - 180 g

Salt and pepper, preferably freshly ground 4 onion rings

2 dessert spoonfulls of finely diced green or red peppers

1 dessert spoonful of finely diced parsley

1 dessert spoonful of finely diced gherkins

Carve the meat into slices of about 1.5 to 2 cm thick, beat them with your hands and press them into shape. Preheat the frying pan and melt some butter in it. Brown the butter before adding the meat. Fry the steaks on both sides. Whale meat should be fried for about 4-5 minutes on each side. The steaks taste best when they are medium rare, but they should be warmed right through and not eaten raw. Serve the steaks on a plate, place an onion ring on each of them and fill it with peppers, parsley and gherkins. Potato scollops taste good together with the steaks. Serve with a bowl of good, crisp lettuce and salad.

I think this sounds fun. I wish I grew up in a different time, when families used to do this kind of stuff. Just think back to when you were 5 or 6 years old and were able to get to see elephants parading downtown. Nowadays, kids don't get the opportunity to experience these types of events. Let the kids enjoy it, while all the uptight parents can think about the possible health code or injuries they can sue the circus over. Or saving the animals. Be adventurous.
