City of Arlington holds teen-centric contests to promote their library card campaign
If you're an Arlington teenager with an idea for producing a commercial to promote -- um -- library cards, then fire up the video camera and get cracking, because you've got until Aug. 28 to turn your brainchild of a promo film in to the City of Arlington for a chance at fame and fortune.
As for the fame: The winning teen-produced 30-60 second commercial (complete details here) will play on the big screen at the Levitt Pavilion on Sept. 8 (during the Teen Library Card Kickoff). You'll share the stage with author D.J. MacHale, whose Pendragon books must be pretty entertaining or they never would have asked him to appear at this event.
In regard to the fortune: The first prize winner gets $500, with $250, $100, and $50 going to those winning the second, third, and honorable mention prizes.
Oh, and if you need inspiration to come up with an angle on "selling" the library card's inherent coolness to your audience, here's a handy reference of features.
What's that? No talent with a video camera, but plenty of hot licks on that electrified axe you're anxious to show off from the Levitt Pavilion stage during the same event? Then you've got until Thursday (Aug. 13) at 8 p.m. to submit your entry for the Virtual Battle of the Bands. (Unsigned musicians only, please.) Same prize money structure applies ($500, $250, $100, and $50).
