Live music events in Dallas-Fort Worth, August 13-16
It's one of those big freakin' deal weekends for rock and metal in town. You can hardly walk anywhere in Dallas without tripping over musical awesomeness, or whatever phrase you would like to use to express "oh wow" sentiments.

Thursday
Content partner Dallas Rock Music Examiner can't help but gush about the Judas Priest and (no longer Whitesnake) concert at Nokia Theater. Or, what's a more metal word for "gush?" Disembowel his feelings? Either way, he presses you to check out the metal masters (and Whitesnake) so we can stay above "Billings and Tempe" as a rock town.
Friday
The big deal on Friday is that Trees' long-awaited, skeptically anticipated return happens. Deep Ellum's green (foliage and new exterior paint job) venue will host local heroes Slow Roosevelt with fellow rockers Element Eighty, System Overload, and Hardway Down.
And if you're into odder fare, the House of Blues is hosting Tragedy: All Metal Bee Gees Tribute.
Saturday
And then Saturday is just plain ridiculous. To start, you've got Marilyn Manson, Slayer, and others on the Rockstar Mayhem Tour packing out the Superpages.com Center starting at 2 p.m.
Trees will have its second night of the grand re-opening weekend with Fair to Midland headlining.
Then, Blue October and Switchfoot slow it down a bit at the House of Blues, inserting some pop (and Christian) into the overall alt-rock(ish) heading.
Sunday
More local music stories
And on Sunday we ride in remembrance of one of this area's most notable rock names, Dimebag Darrell. Ride For Dime 5 BBQ & Bash will feature appearances from Ace Frehly, Corey Taylor of Stone Sour and Slipknot, Aaron Lewis of Staind, as well as members of Shinedown, Machine Head, Testament, Buckcherry, Snot and more. The event starts at 3:33 p.m. at the Palladium Ballroom.
If after this weekend you're somehow able to pull your hands out of a metal sign, good on ya, because days and days of flashing it could have permanent defects. And we're not talking about those stupid Texas horns. Pansies.

Is that preview photo on the front page really a photo of Marilyn Manson? I love him, but he looks TERRIBLE!
