Parking boot ordinance may be coming soon for Dallas

10

— After all those pesky problems with people getting booted in parking lots in Dallas -- namely, those in Deep Ellum -- a city council committee may have come up with a solution: You can only boot a car if you also provide printed receipts for those who lawfully parked there. This comes after the decision to make a decision was delayed in June.

This proposed ordinance hasn't been put into effect yet, but the Transportation and Environment Committee is recommending the council pass it in an August 24 vote. If passed, the ordinance would take effect January 1, 2010, which means we're still out of luck between then and now.

<i> Small-lot operators have complained that they can't afford the kind of electronic equipment that'll swap you a receipt for a few bills. "In that case, booting isn't an option for you," Hunt tells Unfair Park. "It's not like we're closing you down. We just take away one option."</i>

Wait, so some lots will have booting and some won't? Will businesses get to choose which?

I'm confused, which means that form here on forth, I'm going to start carrying an angle-grinder in my trunk.

Pavel from what I've heard the towing companies will buy the machines since they make the $$$ for towing.

They have machines in West End just put the receipt on the dash and you're cool.

That would be pretty convenient. I hate having to drive all the way out to BFE to retrieve my car and pee on the wall - boots will give me the opportunity to vandalize vulture property without finding a second driver!

These parking boots confuse me. These would have been a big hit in the mid to late nineties when it was hard to even find a parking space in Ellum. These days you can practically park in front of your place of choice.

It isn't City boots..it is the individual tow truck companies and small lot owners that have made a ton of money off people..that is why the fee receipt for every parking space will be a good thing. It will stop the evil bastards from pulling a fast one, which has been the bane of more than one Dallas entertainment area.
