Flavor Asian Fusion and Dessert Bar closes Skillman location, will move to Dallas’ Deep Ellum

Going into the space across from Twisted Root.

Flavor Asian Fusion and Dessert Bar, the critically lauded Asian-fusion restaurant starring Rising Star chef Weerayut "Oudi" Utedpornratanakul, closed its location on Skillman Avenue on July 25.

But there is good news, says co-owner/manager Piyada Huatcharoen: The restaurant will reopen in Deep Ellum this fall.

They had plenty of space on Skillman but the area was a deterrent.

"My customers came from Lake Highlands, all south of 635," she said. "One customer told me she felt like she needed to carry a gun to our old place, and I got broken into once. I didn't reveal that to customers because I didn't want to scare them away."

Their new address is 2612 Commerce, across from Twisted Root, in a space that was previously home to music venue Texas Tea House and before that, Blue Cat Blues. They're adding a patio and will go for more of a "chic, cool" atmosphere rather than the elegant tone they had at Skillman.

Chef Oudi is currently in Thailand tending to family matters, but he'll be back in time for the opening, which is scheduled for October.

"We want to tell our foodie fans to wait a little bit and we'll be right back on," Huatcharoen said.
