Garland residents “conned” when attempting Cash for Clunkers rebate
DALLAS Josh Hixson and his wife, Cristen, planned on cashing in their gas-guzzling 2002 Ford F-150 for a nice rebate provided by the government's Cash for Clunkers program. They were promised $4,500 for the truck and began negotiations with the salesperson at John Eagle Sport City Toyota on LBJ Freeway in Dallas.
Long story short, the Hixsons weren't satisfied with the negotiation process and said they'd take their business elsewhere. The salesperson then told them their F-150 magically didn't qualify for Cash for Clunkers anymore, offering to "make a deal" for the same $4,500 price without categorizing it as a rebate.
They walked away from the deal, called the CARS hotline (866-CAR-7891), and proved that his truck did in fact qualify. The salesperson was just trying to make an unfair deal. Read the whole synopsis here.
According to Josh, when he called the dealership (to ask if he accidentally left his sunglasses), the salesman apologized for lying.
