Old Red Museum to present Your Dallas: Lancaster Legacy and Legends
The Old Red Museum of Dallas County History & Culture will open Your Dallas: Lancaster Legacy and Legends, a special temporary exhibit tracing the history and development of Lancaster, on September 12, 2009. Your Dallas: Lancaster Legacy and Legends may be seen through November 1 in Old Red's first floor special exhibits gallery. The exhibit is produced by the Lancaster Historical Society, Cornerstone Historic Preservation Services, and community supporters, and is presented by the City of Lancaster and the Old Red Museum of Dallas County History & Culture.
This exhibit is the third in a series of exhibits highlighting the cities and towns of Dallas County. Old Red will present two exhibits that focus on the history of different Dallas County communities every year. The second in the series, Your Dallas: Carrollton Connections, was on view in the spring of 2009.
Your Dallas: Lancaster Legacy and Legends includes an authentic early 20th-century milk wagon, 19th and 20th-century clothing, including ladies' and children's period dress and military uniforms, photos and images of early Lancaster, personal items from early Lancaster pioneers, and more.
Terrell Falk, president of the Old Red Museum, said, "Old Red is delighted to highlight the history of Lancaster in the Your Dallas series. Founded in 1852, Lancaster is one of Dallas County's earliest settlements. Lancaster enthusiasts as well as those less familiar with the city will be intrigued by the story of this community's development."
On Saturday, September 12, the Old Red Museum will host a Lancaster Legacy and Legends Family Day, with special general admission pricing at $5 per person and includes performances, talks, demonstrations, and crafts for the whole family.
The Old Red Museum of Dallas County History & Culture is located in the West End of downtown Dallas in the beautifully restored Old Red Courthouse built in 1892. Dedicated to inspire and educate visitors about the rich and varied cultural, economic, political and social history of the Dallas County area, the 2nd floor of Old Red is filled with interactive exhibits, an educational learning center, and four mini theaters. The special exhibit gallery is located on the first floor. Admission to Your Dallas: Lancaster Legacy and Legends is included in general admission. General admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $5 for children ages three to sixteen. Admission to Your Dallas: Lancaster Legacy and Legends without general admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children. Admission is free for museum members.
