Oncor gets go-ahead to extract more money from North Texans’ wallets
The Texas Public Utility Commission has given electric service delivery company Oncor the go-ahead to charge more for their services.
Oncor is seeking the rate increase in part so they can recover about $93 million from their unfortunate attempt to install automated meters into 600,000 client homes and businesses. Seems the meters they installed weren't up to smart meter standards, as later officially adopted. So they'll be using part of the rate increase to install -- um -- smarter meters.
The impact on North Texas homeowners served by Oncor will amount to an increase of between $2.5 and $3 per month on average, with about 35 cents of that increase going towards replacing the misbegotten meters.
