Flower Mound asks TxDOT to shut down rest stop on 35W near FM407

5

— Flower Mound is asking TxDOT to shut down a rest stop along 35W near FM407. The stop consists of a couple of picnic tables and trash cans. Awww, Flower Mound hates picnickers? No, it's not that. The town says the rest stop is attracting "a criminal element."

When it was built in the '50s, there weren't many places along that strip for trucks and travelers to stop, but that isn't the case any longer, no-sir-ee, it's a veritable strip mall of places to stop. Besides, it's not even a full-fledged rest area -- no bathrooms, no Internet access (egad!), so what is it good for? Absolutely nothing.

Steve Southwell says:

Yes folks, this is how we surrender to the "criminal element" in America today - by giving up our public spaces to them, then denying them from law-abiding citizens instead of standing up to crime. It's sad, really.

Pavel Lishin says:

I wonder what sort of criminal element this is. I'm envisioning dangerous teenagers putting the community at risk by smoking pot.

Travis Bush says:

Flower Mound has some of the worst cops in Texas when it comes to profiling people. I'm surprised the FM Po-9 haven't handled up on this already..

As a fellow person with weird hair, I'm inclined to believe him.
