Fort Worth-based Telegraph Canyon releases new album today (August 18)
FORT WORTH It takes just the first few opening hollow piano notes of The Tide and The Current, produced by Will Johnson (Centro-Matic, South San Gabriel), to set in motion the idea that Telegraph Canyon is a band with purpose and craft.
“For quick reference, tags like Southern Gothic and Dark Folk could be applied, but neither convey the earnestness, yearning, and desperation of these recordings. After a few listens, you start to feel as if the band is playing these songs just for you,” its producers said.
Opening for bands like Broken Social Scene and Old 97‘s, the band is making waves. Telegraph Canyon is filling the rest of their 2009 calendar with tour dates across the U.S. with the first of two west coast tours starting September 4 in Albuquerque, N.M. Chances are they'll be in a city near you in the coming months.
Upcoming Telegraph Canyon events
* Opening for Old 97's at Bass Hall on Aug. 21
* Tour kick-off CD listening party at Lola’s Sixth on Aug. 21
The band has a double-hitter evening planned next Friday, Aug. 21 supporting Old 97’s at Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth. There will also be a tour kick-off CD listening party at Lola’s Sixth after the show (RTB2 and Eaton Lake Tonics performing). See www.myspace.com/telegraphcanyon for a complete show schedule.
The CD is available online through www.spune.com and www.velvetbluemusic.com, in-store at Good Records in Dallas, and various other independent record stores across the country. At 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20, they will gather at Good Records in Dallas for a full band performance as they celebrate The Tide and The Current's release on 12" vinyl.
Fort Worth's Spune (Doug Burr, Comet, LaMonica, Wall Of Sound Festival), and West Coast’s Velvet Blue Music (Richard Swift, Starflyer 59, Lassie Foundation, Kissing Cousins, Frank Lenz) co-release Telegraph Canyon’s The Tide and The Current.
