Upcoming Denton concerts — August 20-21, 2009
Wayne Hancock -- Friday, Aug 21 at The Boiler Room
We absolutely love this guy. This is what Hank Williams would have sounded like if he wrote songs in the 21st century. He is the king of "Juke Joint Swing" with a honky tonk sound, complete with the twangy guitars and yodeling vocals.
"Thunderstorms and Neon Signs" is a perfect country song, while "Working at Working" captures the seemingly hopeless situation of the current economic crises to a tune Ol' Hank himself would be proud of.

Jessie Frye -- Saturday, Aug 22 at Hailey's
Jessie Frye is one of the area's most promising young talents and for very good reason. Her voice is both soulful and incredibly bright and has been the topic of discussion for many ever since her outstanding performance at South by Southwest.
I recommend you check her out at Hailey's while you still can. I'm pretty positive she will be moving on to much much bigger venues in the very near future. But this is your chance to catch her on the somewhere near the beginning of her journey to the top.
Also playing is the infectious Ashley Gatta. With the talent to have an outstanding career of her own, this show might be a coming out party for her as well.
Pepper Theft -- Saturday, Aug 22 at Dan's Silverleaf
Grubes is my leader, and as such I must mention that Pepper Theft is playing this Saturday night at Dan's. In case you did not figure it out yourself, this is a Red Hot Chili Peppers cover band featuring the world famous Michael Gruber of 1310 The Ticket fame.
A show worth checking out if you are into the Peppers ... or Grubes.

Thanks, Josh! Hope you introduce yourself if you make it to the show. I'll gladly buy you a drink if you're willing to write a positive review of the show instead of an honest one! Haha.
