Westlake Academy to dedicate the Sam and Margaret Lee Arts & Sciences Center
Westlake Academy will hold a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8 a.m. on Friday, August 28, to celebrate the opening of the new $5.1 million, 8,700 square-foot Sam and Margaret Lee Arts and Sciences Center at 2600 J.T. Ottinger Rd., in Westlake. The facility will provide two fully equipped science labs, an art classroom (including a kiln), and additional office space.
“This is a landmark day in the life of Westlake Academy,” said Tom Brymer, town manager and CEO of Westlake Academy. “The Sam and Margaret Lee Arts and Sciences Center will provide a much needed onsite science laboratory for our students, who in the past have taken buses to Tarrant County Community College to use labs in order meet the Academy’s science curriculum requirements. The facility will also give us additional art room space and allow us to continue to deliver first class education to our students.”
The dedication event will begin with a flag ceremony led by Westlake Academy students and opening remarks from Brymer. Mayor Laura Wheat will introduce attending dignitaries, local elected officials, and representatives of Steel and Freeman, and Gideon Toal Architects. Following the ceremony, guests will be invited to enter the facility for a first-hand look and tour of the building.
“At this time we have only about $45,000 left to raise to pay for the building,” said Leah Rennhack, Foundation president. “We are so appreciative of everyone’s support of this incredible state-of-the-art project,” added Rennhack. “From our parent body to the Westlake community as a whole, especially Sam and Margaret Lee, we thank you so very much for the important part you have played in making this day a reality. We are confident we will meet our goal!”
“We are excited to open the doors of the new Sam and Margaret Lee Arts & Sciences Center, a tremendous asset to the Academy which will provide for the school’s International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum at the Diploma levels, grades 11 and 12,” added Brymer. “We invite the community to celebrate with us, take a tour and learn more about Westlake Academy, known world-wide for its academic excellence and IB curriculum which focuses on developing caring, nurturing, inquiring young minds who will help create a more peaceful world through intercultural respect and understanding.”
