Dallas-based Texas Instruments reminds test-taking students that they can bring calculators

0

Teens who are preparing to take college entrance exams should know that some graphing calculators, such as the TI-Nspire graphing calculator from Dallas-based Texas Instruments, are permitted on the SAT and ACT exams. The TI-Nspire graphing calculator also is allowed on AP and IB math tests as well as many statewide math exams.

The College Board calculator policy recommends graphing calculators for the SAT math exam and states that students should bring calculators with which they are familiar to exams. ACT and IB policies also allow approved graphing calculators on exams.

"Using graphing calculators in class and home helps students learn concepts better and prepare for college entrance exams," said 35-year teaching veteran Tom Reardon. "The difference of a couple of points could be several thousand dollars in scholarships. That the College Board allows graphing calculators gives students an advantage."
