Owners of Simon David in Dallas want to demolish and expand grocery store
DALLAS The 24-year-old Simon David grocery store at Inwood Road and University Blvd. in Dallas could be razed and replaced with ... the same thing. Looks like it's going to be the third incarnation: The Simon David was built in 1961, replaced in 1985, and now will be up for round three, as requested by the owner of the store, Randall's Food & Drugs. They'd like to make the grocery store larger, even though there's considerable vacancy in their parking lots now.
Folks at the Observer found the item nestled in Dallas' City Plan Commission agenda, to be discussed Thursday, August 20.

I used to have one of the original "Simon David" charge plates back in the 1970's and 1980's, used it to buy beer there. It was and still is a great store. I remember the steel plated flags from around the world, which greeted customers by the front entrance as you walked into the store. Time flies!

After arriving in Dallas in 1963, I was told, Simon David was, THE supreme grocery store here. I think things changed a bit after it was sold to Tom Thumb. And now of course, it's owned by Randall's. Which is a division of Safeway.

Jesus - FYI we voted on this today and all the new pics said "Tom Thumb" not "Simon David" and the owners said the name would change.
