The Texas Center for Legal Ethics and Professionalism (TCLEP) promotes the ethical practice of law and the highest standards of professional conduct by attorneys. TCLEP also administers the “Justice James A. Baker Guide to the Basics of Law Practice” course, which the Supreme Court of Texas requires all newly licensed Texas lawyers to attend. Mr. Smaby will oversee TCLEP’s ongoing operations and help develop new programming opportunities for education and training.

“The Texas Center for Legal Ethics and Professionalism, which is one of the leading organizations of its kind in the nation, plays a fundamental role in preserving and building upon our state’s great legal tradition,” says Mr. Smaby. “I am excited to help guide this organization as we work with the legal profession and the general public to promote these ideals.”

Mr. Smaby has a long history of involvement with TCLEP, from serving as Course Director for the group’s CLE programs to co-authoring the third edition of Opening and Managing a Law Practice, which is published by TCLEP. He is also a longtime member of TCLEP.
