Dallas’ daytime juvie curfew goes into effect on Monday
Starting on Monday, Aug. 24, school-age kids in the City of Dallas had best stay in school during school hours or look a lot older than they actually are.
That's because a new city ordinance will be going into effect on that day. The ordinance gives police officers the responsibility of watching for juveniles at large during the day, checking their ID, and potentially issuing them a citation if they are found to be in violation. Penalties include a fine of up to $500.
Under terms of the ordinance, business owners will also be responsible for checking to see whether kids playing hooky are present in their establishments. (After which determination, one presumes, they might then call the police to report the youths in question.)

Hmmmm....business owners have to be excited about providing ancillary law enforcement services without remuneration...
Our tax dollars at work - police relegated to nabbing truants instead of criminals.
Too bad the schools seem unable to refer these incidents to the court for prosecution - like they should.
Seems to me that if you force a court appearance and subject parents to a hefty fine, then maybe they just might take a bit more interest in their children's whereabouts during the day...maybe even actually ensure they attend?
Who am I kidding? One more naive illusion bites the dust....<sigh> </sigh>
