Theatre Off the Square in Weatherford opens 11th season with The Rainmaker
The season includes nine shows from September 2009 through July 2010, with the Starlight Awards in August of 2010 to close the season.
The curtain is rising for Weatherford’s only live stage entertainment as Theatre Off the Square’s 11th season opens on Friday, September 4, 2009 with The Rainmaker by N. Richard Nash. After a hugely successful 10th season with increased audience attendance and community support, TOTS’ eleventh season promises to offer a variety of shows and entertainment. The season includes nine shows from September 2009 through July 2010, with the Starlight Awards in August of 2010 to close the season.
Shows for this season are The Rainmaker by N. Richard Nash (with special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.) in September; Bats in the Belfry by Angela Randazzo (courtesy of Dramatic Publishing Co.) in October; Curse of the Werewolf by Tim Kelly (courtesy of Dramatic Publishing Co.) for November; A Carol for Tiny Tim by John R. Carroll (courtesy of Dramatic Publishing Co.) in December; Southern Hospitality by Jones, Hope and Wooten (courtesy of Dramatists Play Service) in February; Witness for the Prosecution by Agatha Christie (with special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.) for April; The Girls of the Garden Club by John Patrick (courtesy of Dramatists Play Service) in May; for June, West of Pecos by Tim Kelly (courtesy of Dramatic Publishing Co.) and the closing show in July, The Wizard of Oz based on the book by L. Frank Baum, adapted by Anne Coulter Martens (courtesy of Dramatic Publishing Co.).
The Rainmaker is the 1954 play which was the basis for the 1956 movie by the same name, which starred Katharine Hepburn and Burt Lancaster, and also the Broadway musical, 110 in the Shade. October and November shows cover the Halloween season with magical powers and a spooky castle. The December show of A Carol for Tiny Tim is a follow up to the Dicken’s story that finds Tiny Tim 15 years older but perhaps not much wiser. Southern Hospitality is the third in the trilogy, following up on Dearly Beloved and Christmas Belles, about the Futrelle sisters and their Texas town of Fayro. The Parker County courthouse is the proposed site for Christie’s Witness for the Prosecution and West of Pecos is a story of one of Texas’ favorite colorful characters, Judge Roy Bean. Girls of the Garden Club comes along just in time for May gardens and the classic The Wizard of Oz for children of all ages finishes the season.
Season tickets are now on sale for the 2009-2010 season at a cost of $78.00 for all 9 shows. For more information, please call 817-341-8687 (TOTS) or visit www.weatherfordtots.org which has been updated with season information.
