Worldfest in Addison to expand to two days in 2009 edition

The Town of Addison and the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth present The 2nd Annual Worldfest -- the region’s largest global festival, now expanded into a two-day celebration of the region’s diverse cultural communities. With international music and dance on multiple stages, exhibitions, global games, international markets, food, children’s activities and more, Worldfest seeks to foster global understanding and unite the people and communities that make North Texas such a vibrant place to live. The Town of Addison and World Affairs Council will partner to present North Texas’ largest international festival which will take visitors on a fascinating journey around the globe. The newly expanded two-day event will bring the exotic allure of far-away places to the grounds of Addison Circle Park on October 24-25, 2009.

Worldfest attendees will celebrate the sights, sounds and cultures of the featured special “Experiences” which are presented by these community partners:

* Experience Turkey – featuring a performance by a 45-member world champion folk dance group presented by TURANT (Turkish American Association of North Texas) and more.

* Experience Asia – includes a special exhibition of artifacts presented the Crow Collection of Asian Art

* Experience Italy, India, Colombia, and more!

OTHER EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:

Worldfest attendees can immerse themselves in the culture and customs of other countries around the globe also with features such as:

* International Marketplace – No passport needed to visit the cultures of Africa, Americas, Asia and Europe

* Global Food Court – A smorgasbord of global cuisine

* Six Stages – Authentic music and dance performances featuring Brave Combo, The Killdares plus the Australian Outback Show, a 45-member world champion folk dance group from Turkey and more

* Mariachi Competition and Showcase – Professional student and mariachi groups will wisk you away to the streets of Latin America

* Children’s Workshops and Global Games – A hands on introduction to the global cultures through arts, crafts, games and other creative activities

* Passport – a global quest to explore the rich heritages of the world

* Parade of Nations – A colorful and symbolic parade of the nations participating in WorldFest

* Green Around the World – Learn how to reduce your carbon footprint and live green while having fun

* The Dallas Film Society of international short films

* Consular Corps of Dallas-Fort Worth reception

* International Cake Decorating Challenge
