UPDATED: Cowboys Stadium scoreboard ruled to be just fine where it is
Updated 12:40 p.m., August 28, 2009
So, yeah, the Dallas Cowboys beat the Tennessee Titans 30-10 in their second preseason game Friday night, and Tony Romo played well, yada, yada, yada, it's the preseason and nobody really cares.
What's really interesting is that, in the American football debut of Cowboys Stadium, Tennessee punter A.J. Trapasso hit the gigantic scoreboard hanging over the field during live play. Both Trapasso and Craig Hentrich, Tennessee's starting punter, hit the scoreboard consistently during pre-game warm-ups. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says he's not moving the dang thing, but Trapasso says Jones may have no choice, since he claims most of the punters in the league will hit the scoreboard on a regular basis.
UPDATE: The NFL ruled that the scoreboard will be allowed to stay put at its current height. If a ball hits the scoreboard, the punt will be replayed and the clock will be reset to its previous time (the last bit is a point of contention, since that rule did not previously exist). Balls that comes close to the board will also be eligible for replay review.

That is the one thing that will make Jerry Jones very mad,...having to move the scoreboard!! Trust me on this one.

If it'll make Jerry very mad, it just means the people of Arlington won't have to pay for it. I say move that scoreboard!!!

Moving the screen would cost $2 million. Jerry Jones doesn't think anyone will hit it during regular season.

Peter King of Sports Illustrated talked to several NFL officials and it's looking like the board will have to be moved. No official decision yet, though.

I've also been told that the U2 stage is 90ft tall, the same height as this screen. So it will need to be moved for that too.

He's being stubborn as usual. They have to move it for the U2 concert anyways.

Yeah, Jerry's egomaniacal and wants things done the way he wants things done but has anyone stopped to think about the fact that for people actually in the stadium, raising the video board any further would take away from the quality of the experience going to games?
If I was paying however many hundreds (or thousands, or hundreds of thousands) for tickets, I would be glad they are taking a stand against raising the boards permanently unless it was absolutely necessary.

Strange how people need to be entertained with sports and huge scoreboards and stuff. You think this new stadium had some spiritual meaning with the way everyone is carrying on about it. Man is the sole danger to existence, individually.

Maybe the punter wanted to be the answer to a future trivia question. "First punter to hit the scoreboard in an NFL game!!"

do people REALLY THINK Jerry would've had to pay the 2 million? The money would've come from somewhere, BUT NOT FROM JERRY!! Maybe Arlington would have to raise taxes on the "wealthiest of Arlington citizens?" Or just add more taxes on cigarettes, to fund healthcare, after the 2 million has been paid for. J-E-T-S! JETS!JETS!JETS!
