Dallas City Council members visiting schools on Monday, August 24

0

— Some members of the Dallas City Council are going back to school on Monday, August 24, to greet students, parents, teachers, and staff in an effort to welcome everyone back for the new school year, congratulate them on their most recent TAKS performance and show support for the work they are doing.

Monday is the first day of school for Dallas ISD and more than 157,000 students are expected to report to begin the 2009-2010 school year.

Participating council members have teamed up with one school in their district to make the first day of school visits. Those council members and schools are:

• Dwaine Caraway at South Oak Cliff High School, 3601 South Marsalis, at 8 a.m.

• Pauline Medrano at Obadiah Knight Elementary School, 2615 Anson Rd, at 7:30 a.m.

• Delia Jasso at Sunset High School, 2120 West Jefferson Blvd., at 8:15 a.m.

• Vonciel Jones Hill at Adelle Turner Elementary School, 5505 S. Polk, at 7:45 a.m.

• Tennell Atkins at Martin Weiss Elementary School, 8601 Willoughby, at 7:45 a.m.

• Sheffie Kadane at Casa View Elementary School, 2100 N. Farola Dr., at 7:30 a.m.

• Linda Koop at George Bannerman Dealey Montessori, 6500 Royal Ln., at 7:45 a.m.

• Ann Margolin at W.T. White High School, 4505 Ridgeside Dr., at 8:30 a.m.

Dallas ISD students and teachers return to school this year on a high note after students showed remarkable progress on their TAKS performance last year. Dallas ISD will begin the 2009-2010 school year with 128 exemplary or recognized schools, up from 103 at the beginning of last school year.
