The City of Dallas has scheduled a big, big recycling event Saturday, Aug. 29.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the four locations listed below, you'll be able to haul over your recyclable discards (including TVs, appliances, furniture, scrap metal, clothing, tires, building materials ... the complete list of acceptable items can be found in this .pdf) and be rid of them once and for all, with the knowledge that you're doing something positive for the environment. You'll probably feel a pleasurable green glow inside. (But that, too, will pass).
NOTE that household chemicals, paint, styrofoam, and plastic films will NOT be accepted at the dropoff locations.
The first 50 residents to drop off items will each receive two free movie passes, and everyone who drops off recyclables will be entered in a drawing for a "special prize" and a shot at earning the title of SUPER RECYCLER. (Which doesn't quite carry the same cachet as "Batman," but -- hey -- what do you expect for hauling off your own discards?)
Here are the dropoff locations:
* Dallas International School, 6039 Churchill Way
* Elliott's Hardware, 4901 Maple Ave.
* Stonewall Jackson Elementary School, 5828 E. Mockingbird Ln.
* Mountain View College, 4849 W. Illinois Ave.
The City of Dallas Sanitation Services Dept. is in charge of this one-day recyclathon; for further information, dial 311.
