Plano named one of the 10 best places to grow up
If you don't want to grow up, head to Neverland.
Using a formula that put a high value on a low crime rate, good schools, and ample green space (among others), U.S. News and World Report has put Plano on its list of America's 10 Best Places to Grow Up. Plano appears ninth on the list, just above Edison, New Jersey (New Jersey?), but the list is not numbered, so it's not clear if they deem places like Virginia Beach, Virginia; Overland Park, Kansas; and Boston to be better places to grow up or not.
Plano is cited for its strong school system, relatively-low home prices, and being in driving distance of Cowboys games as reasons for making the list. (H/T to Jason Rice for the heads-up.)

Hmmmmm. I would like to see the criteria that this is based on. They must have used something like: areas with most cars that have flip screen TV's, areas with most McDonald's, and area with most koala bare changing stations. Because you would not rate such an unnaturally ugly area as anything but pleasant. (Oh and areas with most shopping malls)

Well, it's a bunch of suburbs, a bunch of parks, and a bunch of schools. If you're a kid, great. If you're me, you're already loathing your harpy of a wife that made you buy a house in the middle of nowhere, not even a bar within walking distance, and god, the kids are home, time to pour myself another vodka vodka.

Pav,it is not that bad, when you think about crime and immigrants, walking downtown who are really...out to find a new problem...The inner citie's were safe last year, now I am wondering, Plano is not such a bad ideal, besides the train trip is great and the little town has charm , you can actually go to a place an eat without some immigrants...problems...A/T. Sign of the times.......

I also liked the fact that Cedar Rapids made the list... Yeah, the place that was completely flooded and under water about this time last year. (No not the FEMA trailer perople, the boring northerners.)

Draw bridge - actually almost all of them have them. We just lack a river as a mollifying excuse to appease our neighbors, a distinction we share with Overland Park.

Plano has mellowed, And became a 35 year old community.....While it was an old cotton town in the 1900's, it has held on to its plain old feelings ...which made a come back a couple of years ago..and in the 1920's it was the home of flying bootleggers...now with the DART rail it's something good for the county...A/T,... The drawbridge is open to Plain O.

I remember when I worked at the Tom Thumb in old Town, in the late 70's, Plano seemed like 100 miles away. Wasn't UTD, the University of Plano, at one time? I don't remember going north of Campbell, in those days.
