Studio Movie Grill announces September ticket discounts

0

Think of September as Customer Appreciation Month at North Texas Studio Movie Grill (SMG) locations.

The SMG powers that be have proclaimed that all Monday-Thursday ticket prices for the month of September -- regardless of showtime -- will be just $5 each.

That's the pocketbook-driven news. The other big announcement falls more into the technical category, and it's technical stuff that everyone who loves watching movies can appreciate: The Dallas location (Royal at Central) now boasts a theater equipped with Dolby 3D.

I guess the proof will be in the viewing, but the Dolby folks think their 3D process is superior to others, resulting in (it says here) "realistic color and a sharper, clearer image from every seat in the house. Competing 3D systems lack the clarity and depth of color definition that Dolby can provide." According to Dolby.

The addition of 3D capability is getting to be essential for movie theaters as a result of all the films being produced in that format. Coming up in the short term, for instance, are a series of 3D productions from Hollywood studio juggernauts, such as The Final Destination (starting this Friday, Aug. 28), Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, James Cameron's groundbreaking Avatar, and A Christmas Carol (with Jim Carrey as Scrooge). There are also plans to re-release some old favorites in the 3D format, like Toy Story, Toy Story 2, and Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.
