Dallas police department to oversee investigation of cat killings and mutilations
The Dallas police department is officially overseeing an investigation on what has been an ongoing pattern of cat killings and mutilations across the city. Up until now, the city hasn't had a system in place. Cat killings have been reported in northwest Dallas, North Dallas, northeast Dallas, and they're all cruel and horrid. The police will be working with an investigator from Dallas Animal Services.
There's no comprehending why anyone would do this, but it's also hard to understand why people let their cats roam around outside. We're not out in nature, we're a city, and it's just a lousy thing to do. Wouldn't it be nice if people who got pets had to take a class first?

So sad about the kitties but the scariest part about this is that we basically have a serial killer(s) in the making roaming the streets of Dallas. It is good to know that the DPD is taking this seriously. It's only a matter of time before he/they graduate to human beings.

The article mentions ... "it's also hard to understand why people let their cats roam around outside. We're not out in nature, we're a city, and it's just a lousy thing to do. Wouldn't it be nice if people who got pets had to take a class first?"
We ARE in a city, but people have let their cats out of their houses since I can remember.
It's one of the unique things about cats - they mill around outside and always come home and they pose no threat to others, and if they're not declawed - it's typically OK to let them run around, scratch a tree, mark an area as their own - 'prowl' the neighborhood - then come home for vittles.
I think it's lousier to keep them locked up inside when seriously - when has it EVER been an issue to 'let the cat out' before?
Can't believe that's even a paragraph in this story!??!?!
What's sick, disgusting and the real issue (story) here - is the wack-job that's going around slaying cats for pleasure.
I have to agree with jtmbls - this sick freak would probably turn to humans at some point.
Best the police go ahead and investigate now.

perhaps SandyTaylor would find <a href="http://www.runway.net/b/moonmaid/in-or-out.html">this link</a> illuminating, about the perils an outdoor cat faces, including the statement that the average lifespan of an outdoor cat is "about a year and a half" vs. 15 years for a cat that stays indoors.
obviously the fortunes of a cat depend on where it lives, with some neighborhoods more dangerous than others; but as the story points out, most cats feel free to roam wherever they want, including streets and other places where their life is at risk

<i>She found both halves of the 12-year-old cat laid out, as she says, "like the Black Dahlia" on a neighbor's front lawn: "I am no C.S.I. expert, but this did not look like an animal attack. They were clean cuts, no blood."</i>
...
<i> “It was a grey cathead, it was just chopped off—it looked like a clean cut,” she told me. “There was nothing wrong with the face, so it didn’t look like it had been in a fight. The head was just sliced right off.”</i>
...
<i>The neighbor who discovered Bill -- who appeared "to have been chopped in half with a machete," according to his heartsick owner, Melissa, a family friend -- called 911.</i>
Dude, if you think that <strong>machete-wielding coyotes</strong> are the better alternative here, you are clearly not living in the same world as I am.

The heat these past couple of weeks makes the morons of the universe do stupid things....while killing animals is ...indeed, something to look into, because it could lead to other things....while wild animals on the loose, possible..then again lets stay tuned as the Pegasus News.....Keep's a balanced eye on things that can be solved...Or realized...A/T..This is not stupid this is mean....

"CAts" who act weird because they stay inside all the time probably don't receive enough attention from their owners. the ideal that's recommended by Dr. Elsey, maker of fine cat litter, is a minimum 15 minutes of play in the morning and 15 minutes at night

Maybe people could keep their damned cats inside so they don't have to keep taking dumps all over the place.

The above is a 4-5 milliwatt device. You're looking for something a bit more... let's say sporty... in the gigawatt range.
Sure, you're saying to yourself, "But that's Kirtland Airforce Base. Won't my neighbors take umbrage at a large sodium laser in my front yard?"
Not after one or two introductory test firings.
