Tarrant County schools, against advice, hold retreats at resorts
Despite using money that isn't eligible for such things as hiring new teachers, some Tarrant County-area schools are being criticized for holding retreats at fancy hotels and resorts like the Gaylord Texan and Hilton Anatole. Twenty Fort Worth ISD schools spent over $700,000 combined on their retreats, which are designed to help teachers come up with ways to improve student performance. Most of the schools come in under state-mandated rates, but the perception of staying at a resort is deemed by some officials to outweigh the actual cost of it.
