Texas Dept. of State Health Services extends deadline for students to get three new vaccines

The Texas Department of State Health Services has granted all students an emergency extension to comply with the new immunizations requirements. Students who are required to have, but have not yet received, one or more of the three new required vaccinations must comply with the new requirements by Oct. 1. The three new required vaccinations are:

● Meningococcal vaccine;

● Tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis (Tdap) vaccines for Texas students entering 7th grade and boosters for students entering grades 8-12; and

● Varicella vaccine for students entering kindergarten and those entering 7th grade.

Students must currently be in compliance with all the other previously required vaccinations. Students will be allowed to provisionally enroll in school through Sept. 30, but must have all the three new required immunizations by the extended deadline granted by the Texas Department of Health.

Dallas ISD will continue to operate its Back to School Hotline in English and Spanish until Friday, Aug. 28, to answer any back-to-school related questions or concerns, including immunizations requirements. Parents can call the hotline at (972) 925-5437 (KIDS). The hotline will be open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, Aug. 24 through Tuesday, Aug. 25, and 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 26 through Friday, Aug. 28.
