— The new operator for the theater at Highland Park Village will be Landmark Theaters, Overheard says.

The theater shut down at the beginning of the month for a renovation that's set to be finished in May.

That'll give Landmark, owned by Mark Cuban, three local entities, including The Magnolia and the Inwood.

UPDATE: The press release hath landed:

Highland Park Village owners have entered into a partnership with Landmark Theaters to operate the iconic Village Theater, reopening in May 2010 after a complete renovation. Landmark Theaters is part of the Wagner/Cuban companies, a vertically integrated group of media properties co-owned by Todd Wagner and Mark Cuban.

Landmark was selected because of its history and reputation in the marketplace. “Landmark is committed to having first run, hit movies shown at the Village Theater, which was one of our top priorities when considering operators,” says Stephen Summers, Highland Park Village director of leasing and partner of HP Village Partners, Ltd. “By partnering with Landmark, our goal of offering a ‘best in class’ experience will not only be achieved, but surpassed.”

The Village Theater, which originally opened in 1935, will reopen in May 2010 with new leather seating, digital projectors, state-of-the art sound technology and a wide selection of unique and traditional concession items. Additionally, the revitalized theater will allow for reservations of private events such as birthday, anniversary or game watching parties. “We are excited to be a part of what is going on at the Village and see great potential for the remodeled theater,” says Kevin Parke, President of Landmark Theaters. Landmark Theaters owns and operates The Magnolia in West Village and the Inwood Theater on Lovers Lane, as well as 66 other theaters across the country.

I saw Rocky H. one time there. Wow those participants really put a ton of energy into activity that had no apparent meaning. I do respect them for that.

Boy did they tear that place up over the years..and besides...the Village really sucks...now why can I say this...because my Uncle used to take tickets at the Theatre in the mid 1960's, while he worked at North Park for a second job at Channel 8... when that opened up....oh well, it was one theatre not 9...A/T, Time to let go of the real past and not some phonie developers future...

The last movie I saw there was American Gangester and I was charmed by the theater. I think it would be great to have one more independant type theater around town and this is the perfect location!
