Texas Rangers 7, New York Yankees 2
NEW YORK CITY The Texas Rangers embarrassed their benign hosts Thursday afternoon, defeating the New York Yankees 7-2 on the Yankees home turf. It was the first time in two and a half months that a visiting team took a series in Yankee Stadium, and improved Texas to 71-55.

The best team in baseball came out a little flat against Texas' bullpen.
With games involving the LA Angels and Boston Red Sox pending later in the day, the Rangers were able to temporarily climb a half-game in both the AL West divisional race and the wild card chase.
While Rangers starter Dustin Nippert was pulled in the fourth after allowing two runs on four hits and seven walks, the Rangers bullpen then proceeded to shut down the most potent lineup in baseball. Jason Grilli, C.J. Wilson, and Frank Francisco combined to pitch five and a third innings, surrendering just two harmless singles and one walk while striking out seven. Grilli was credited with the win, his second of the season.
All seven of Texas' runs came off home runs. Ian Kinsler belted two, a three-run shot to left in the top of the third to make it 3-1, and a solo shot in the eighth to cap off the scoring. Chris Davis added a three-run shot in the top of the seventh which effectively put the game out of reach.
