Computers stolen from nine Arlington schools
Arlington police are investigating a series of school burglaries in which more than 80 computers were stolen over the past three months. Nine Arlington Independent School District elementary schools have been targeted by the thieves.
The most recent burglary occurred on Friday, August 28, sometime before the start of class. As teachers arrived at Atherton Elementary School this morning, some teachers notified school officials that their classroom windows had been broken and computers were missing.
Arlington school district officials have been coordinating with police investigators and provided officers with video surveillance taken from a couple of the schools that have been burglarized, offering police some suspect information. Still images captured from that surveillance footage are attached to this email.
The suspect appears to be a thin, black man with a gold or diamond earring in his right ear. In at least one photo, the suspect is wearing a doo-rag or head scarf, possibly tied in the front.
Also included in the photos is an image of a car that is believed to have been used by the suspect to leave the scene. It appears to be an older model, dark-colored Chevy Caprice or Oldsmobile with four doors. One distinct characteristic is that there is one chrome-colored hub cap on the front driver’s side of the car and a missing hub cap on the back driver’s side of the vehicle.
Anyone with information about these burglaries or the suspect in the photographs is asked to contact the Arlington Police Department at 817 459-5667, or Crime Stoppers at (817) 469-TIPS (8477). All tipsters remain anonymous and are eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
