Texas Rangers 3, Minnesota Twins 0
The Texas Rangers kept pace in their playoff races Saturday night, defeating the Minnesota Twins 3-0 in Minneapolis. The win improved Texas to 72-56 on the season.
With the win, Texas gained ground on the LA Angels for first place in the AL West. The Angels lost, meaning Texas is now a manageable four games back with 34 to play. Texas is still 2 1/2 games behind the Boston Red Sox in the wild card race.
Rangers road warrior Scott Feldman continued his away-from-Arlington dominance, surrendering just four harmless hits through five-plus innings. Feldman, who has now won six straight on the road, improved to 14-4 on the year with a 3.72 ERA. He was relieved by insanely talented rookie Neftali Feliz, who mowed down all four batters he faced and improved his own ERA to a microscopic 0.51. Frank Francisco pitched a scoreless ninth for his 19th save.
The Rangers got all the runs they would need in the top of the first inning, when Josh Hamilton doubled in Michael Young and Ian Kinsler singled Hamilton in to make it 2-0. Ivan Rodriguez hit a solo home run, his first since re-joining the Rangers, to make it 3-0 in the ninth.
