Steve Buechele joins Frisco RoughRiders as manager for 2010 season

Buechele most notably spent parts of eight seasons with the Rangers, including 1991 in which he set a MLB record for fielding percentage by a third-baseman (.991), a record which still remains today.

— The Frisco RoughRiders will have a new manager at the helm for their 8th season in 2010. Steve Buechele, who served as the Bakersfield Blaze skipper in 2009, joins Brant Brown (hitting coach), Jeff Andrews (pitching coach), Luke Chichetto (strength and conditioning coach), and Chris Gorosics (trainer) -- each of whom were with the ‘Riders last season.

Buechele, 48, becomes the sixth full-time manager for the RoughRiders organization. Last season in the California League, Buechele led the Blaze (75-65) to a playoff appearance in his first season as a manager. Signed out of the fifth round in the 1982 draft by the Texas Rangers, Buechele went on to play 11 seasons in the big leagues, including stops in Pittsburgh, and Chicago (NL). However, Buechele most notably spent parts of eight seasons with the Rangers, including 1991 in which he set a MLB record for fielding percentage by a third-baseman (.991), a record which still remains today.

Brant Brown, 38, returns to the RoughRiders for his second season as the ‘Riders hitting coach. Last year under Brown’s direction, the ‘Riders were second in the Texas League in home runs (108) while striking out the second fewest times in the league (856). 2010 will mark Browns’ 4th year within the Rangers organization.

Jeff Andrews, 51, will be back for the 2010 season, his second with the ‘Riders Organization. The former Pittsburgh Pirate pitching coach joined the staff part-way through the 2009 season, and helped lead the pitching staff to a dramatic second-half turnaround. This will be Andrews 8th season within the Rangers organization (1986-1991, 2009, 2010).
