Comedy events in Dallas-Fort Worth, December 10-15
For the first time ever, there's a kids event included in this comedy series. And we think it might actually be funny.
Based on this week's lineup of comedians in Dallas-Fort Worth, foreign accents and minority jokes abound. We'll first say that PegNews doesn't necessarily endorse this kind of behavior, we may or may not have enjoyed these videos below, and we can't confirm or deny ... anything.
If that type of comedy ain't your thing, we've got other options. That includes, for the first time ever, a kids event in our comedy series. Kid stuff can be funny, right? Maybe?
Thursday
Pablo Francisco is just the first of three comedians in this week's lineup hoping to convince us that race jokes are still funny. Francisco is known for being a Latino stand-up comedian and got his start on MADtv (much like one of our funny guys from two weeks ago, Bobby Lee). He also toured a sold-out concert in Europe to people who don't even speak English as their first language. Hmm.

Note, the show at the Improv is strictly for 21 and over.

Paul Varghese
- Fri
- Dec
- 11th
- 10:30PM
- Hyena's Comedy Night Club
-
605 Houston Street
Fort Worth, TX - Age limit: 18+ $10 - $15
More race jokes are bound to come out of this set -- this time of the Indian persuasian, beacuse we're trying to keep it diverse for you folks. Paul Varghese is a regular comedian in Dallas and was recognized as the best in Dallas by the Observer in 2007.
One of our writers caught up with Varghese when he performed at Backdoor Comedy recently and learned that in addition to being funny, he seems to be a pretty good guy. Now for the "aww" moment: “I really try to treat this as an art form,” Varghese said in this story. “Topical stuff may be able to get a bigger reaction, but I want to be able to do these jokes in 10 years if I want. They’re harder to write, but with personal stuff it feels like the audience is identifying with me as a person.” He also does a damn good Indian accent.

This next clip has some low-volume issues, but we like it because Varghese tells some personal stories about his alma mater, the University of North Texas.

Doktor Kaboom! Look Out, Science is Coming!
- Sat
- Dec
- 12th
- 11AM
- Irving Arts Center
-
3333 North MacArthur Boulevard
Irving, TX - $15
Here's that kids comedy event we were talking about: Doktor Kaboom. It's a funny science performance used to educate and entertain kids. We're even told it's a "sidesplitting journey of increasingly spectacular – and often successful – science experiments."
You be the judge:
Doktor Kaboom! Catapult Schmatapult
The Catapult was not invented for war.
Saturday
Lugo and Long: Blue Christmas
- Sat
- Dec
- 12th
- 11:15PM
- Pocket Sandwich Theatre
-
5400 East Mockingbird Lane
Dallas, TX - Age limit: 17+ $10
Also on Saturday, local guys Lugo and Long give a raunchy take on the yuletide season at the Pocket Sandwich Theatre. They combine stand-up jokes with improv and will even throw in a little song and dance. Unlike Doktor Kaboom, organizers say this is definitely for adults.
Tuesday
Comedian Rudy Rush has been around the block, telling jokes with the likes of Dave Chappelle, Martin Lawrence, and Jamie Foxx.
Here is Rudy Rush, below, in a bit that fits right into our theme this week:
